If you are unable to resolve a contractual or workmanship dispute with your builder, you can lodge a complaint with the Building Disputes Tribunal.
The Tribunal is an independent quasi-judicial body separate from the Builders’ Registration Board and provides a straightforward, inexpensive forum for adjudicating building disputes between owners and builders.
Before lodging a complaint with the Tribunal, you must always try to resolve any problems with your builder in the first instance. Before lodging a complaint you must write to the builder stating the issues, and what action you are seeking.
Alternative methods of dispute resolution are available through the Department of Commerce (Tel. 1300 304 054), independant mediation and arbitration services, or through a Court.
Staff at the Builders' Registration Board cannot give advice in relation to a dispute. Please seek legal and/or technical advice from a qualified professional.
