BRB Builders' Registration Board of Western Australia BRB Builders Registration Board of WA

Builders > Compliance Audits

The Board conducts compliance audits to assist builders comply with the Builders' Registration Act 1939 and the Home Building Contracts Act 1991.

The purpose of the audits are to educate builders about their statutory obligations and to provide builders with an opportunity to address and discuss non-compliance issues before they arise.

Audits are carried out by a compliance officer and are initiated by the Board randomly selecting a registered builder or by a builder requesting an audit.

The compliance officer will visit the builder's business premises and inspect a number of nominated construction project files and associated records.  Where compliance issues are identified, the compliance officer offers feedback and direction, and provides the builder with the opportunity to raise any issues of which they may be unsure.

Information obtained during a proactive audit remains confidential and is not used for any other purpose unless required by law.

Since commencing compliance audits in 2004, the Board has received many comments on how helpful the audits have been, as they provide an opportunity to review and change administrative practices and to ensure that contractual documents meet legislative requirements.

To arrange a compliance audit, please contact the Board's Compliance Manager on (08) 9476 1200.
